I want to know...is there anyone who didn’t work at Chrysler who seriously looked at this interior and went, “Mmmmm...luxurious.”

Tell me this is from 10 years ago and I won’t judge it too harshly. Because it’s worlds better than what came before.

I see three different pieces of fake wood. I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Damn, you beat me to the hour rule! And can’t help but notice the early Challenger steering wheel.

The augties were an atrocious time for car interior design.

Is that from an Aspen?

Also, the mid-2000s were a crap time for pretty much every automaker.

You are correct, it’s from 2006, and while 2006 wasn’t the finest era for automotive interior designs, you can’t help but admit that this Chrysler is definitely bottom of the bucket.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I know the other American brands weren’t doing it much better, but at least Lincoln had a more pleasing design scheme.

That fake brushed aluminum also scratches when it comes in contact with anything harder than human flesh. Plus the scratches expose the black underneath so it stands out even more so.

The Aspen is somehow better AND worse at the same time.

This actually isn’t 2006! Can confirm, owned one. This is from 2007-2011, cousin has one from those years.

Having rented many of those cars, my feeling was the designer was told to make it expensive looking, but please result in a cost reduction.

I never objected to the european designs of the same era because I got the feeling that the designers actually cared about the outcome and tried to be creative while using less expensive materials.

The center stack triggers me, reminds me of a cheapish PC from around 2000 (running Windows ME of course).

I actually owned one of these, and it’s far better than you would expect. It looks ugly, but materials and build quality is actually pretty solid.

Plus, this was Cadillac’s cheapest car at the time, so you got what you paid for.

But, I don’t understand why that one has a wood gear shift with no other wood on the interior...the earlier CTS’s wood package came in three areas: the door handle, the steering wheel, and the gear shifter...where’s the other wood?

This definitely looks worse than the Chrysler.

I beg to differ. I was looking into one of them around 2006 (ended up with E90) and the plastics are pretty bad.

Plus IIRC the sales staff could not even be bothered to give me information.

I mean I owned mine for nearly four years before the accident. I found the interior to be more function over form.

You expect that in an older Chrysler, but what was Jaguar’s excuse?

That Lincoln interior is terrible. The silver trim looks like something you’d see on an off-brand CD boombox in a big-box store.

What Jag is this? S-Type?

As Chinny Raccoon said, this is definitely a Ford thing.

Yeah, it was pretty bad for a car in that price range. After a few years, they redesigned it to this, which was a blatant copy of the Rover 75's interior, but, obviously, much better.

And you could specify faux tortoiseshell in place of the faux wood, for extra brass and class.

I don’t really see Rover 75, more XJ.

I see it, but, I suppose all of them were going for the same effect.

Kinja'd!!!

The thing was, the 75 and S-Type were direct competitors, both retro 1950s designs, and came out at about the same time, but the Rover was a bit cheaper, and launched with the above interior.
